No. 1-ranked Softball Wins Pair of Games Against Jarvis

SAN ANTONIO (March 8, 2024) – The No. 1-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team swept the doubleheader against Jarvis Christian University (JCU) on Friday afternoon. The Saints jump to 21-1 overall and 4-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Bulldogs drop to 4-8 overall and 1-5 in conference.

History

The Saints were 17-4 against JCU prior to the games.

Game one

The Bulldogs struck first in game one in the third inning. They scored one run on a double to center field. Kayla Dreese responded for the Saints in the bottom of the frame with a double that brought home Kristee Salas. Marissa Bradley and Eneli Garza picked up RBIs in the fourth inning and the Saints led 3-1. They tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning to extend the advantage to 6-1. Dreese hit a solo home run and another run was scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning. The Saints won 8-1 backed by eight hits. Cassandra Valdez pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts to earn the win.

Game two

The Saints shutout the Bulldogs 9-0 in a five-inning run rule in game two. Natalie Rodriguez doubled to score Valdez in the first inning and later scored on an error in the frame. The Saints increased the lead to 5-0 in the second inning with a run scored on a passed ball and a walk with bases loaded. The fifth run was a ground out RBI by Rodriguez. Dreese set the Saints all-time doubles record with 53 in the fourth inning which scored two runs. She later stole home in the fourth inning to bump the lead to 7-0. Ava Hernandez tacked on the last run of the game when she hit a sacrifice fly to score Peyton Farris. The Saints won 9-0 and Hernandez pitched all five innings. She sat down 10 batters to earn the win in the circle.
