Saints Softball Defeat Louisiana Christian 18-0 in Red River Doubleheader

SAN ANTONIO (March 22, 2024) – Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball continues to dominate on the field as the women blanked Louisiana Christian University (OLLU) 8-0 and 10-0. The No. 1-ranked Saints added four wins prior to today's doubleheader after Huston-Tillotson University forfeited the rest of its season. The Saints improve to 33-1 overall and 10-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Wildcats drop to 17-12 and 7-5 in the RRAC. The Saints have won 29 straight contests.

Game one

Cassandra Valdez's first at-bat was a home run over centerfield – her 34th career at OLLU. She broke Ariel Montgomery's 33 home run record set last season. Kristee Salas opened the second inning with a homer to center. Natalie Rodriguez hit a single and Eneli Garza came home to score to give the Saints the 3-0 lead. In the third, Grace Ross doubled, and she later scored. Bradi Hill hit to right, and both Madison Garza and Hernandez scored. Salas followed with a double to send Celina Wilharm home. The Saints now led 7-0.

Ross started the fourth inning with a home run. With no runs from the Wildcats in the fifth, the Saints closed out the game winning 8-0.

Ross led the offense going 3-for-3 adding two runs and an RBI. Hernandez, Hill and Salas all went 2-for-3, with Hill and Salas recording two RBIs. Valdez, Ross and Salas each had a home run.

Valdez went all five innings, striking out 10 and not allowing a hit. This is her second no-hitter of the season, with the first one being a perfect game against the University of the Southwest earlier this month.

Game two

In the first, Hernandez reached base on an error, and Grace Ross and Natalie Rodriguez came home to score giving the Saints the 2-0 lead. In the second, Kristee Salas hit a grounder and Arianna Alejandro came home to give the Saints the 3-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Marissa Bradley singled to send Madison Garza home. With the 4-0 lead, Garza's hit drove in Hernandez and Wilharm. Alejandro doubled to score Garza. Salas hit a walk-off home run that scored Marissa Bradley and Alejandro. The Saints won 10-0.

Garza led the offense going 2-for-3, adding two runs and two RBIs. Alejandro marked two runs and two RBIs. Salas recorded five RBIs.
