ALEXANDRIA, LA. (April 5, 2024) - The No. 1-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team won both games against LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) in a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) doubleheader. The Saints are now 39-1 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 16-0. The Generals drop to 23-11 overall and 11-6 in the RRAC. The Saints have won 35 straight games, which ties the program record.
Head Coach Bruce Lenington commented, "We needed one of our best efforts to beat a really good LSUA team on the road. Grace Ross and Ava Hernandez led our offense in each game and our pitching and defense were solid."
History
The Saints were 8-23 against the Generals prior to the doubleheader.
Game One
The Saints blanked the Generals in game one. OLLU plated four runs in the first inning backed by a double from Grace Ross and a single by Bradi Hill. Ross increased the lead in the fifth inning with a solo home run. She continued her impressive hitting by picking up another RBI in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly. The Saints won 6-0 with eight hits. Ross finished with four RBIs, which tied her single-game record. Cassandra Valdez started in the circle and struck out 12 batters in the shutout. Valdez moves to 15-0 on the season with the victory. Madison Garza, Natalie Rodriguez, Ross and Hill all had a multi-hit game.
Game Two
The Generals took the lead early in game two. They scored one run on a double play in the first inning. Ava Hernandez put the Saints on top in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run home run. Garza stole home in the fifth ininng which gave the Saints the permanent 3-1 lead. Hernandez picked up the win in the circle to move to 16-1 on the season. Valdez pitched two innings in relief to grab the save.
