Softball Drops Close Game Against LSU-Alexandria at RRAC Championship Tournament

LECOMPTE, LA. (May 5, 2024) – The No. 1-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team fell to LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) 3-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Championship Tournament semifinals. The Saints are the No. 1 seed while the Generals are the No. 2 seed. The Saints 45-game winning streak was snapped with the loss.

Head Coach Bruce Lenington commented, "What I haven't been able to teach our team is how to bounce back after a loss. Only losing can provide that opportunity and I'm excited to see how our team responds."

History

The Saints were 10-23 against the Generals prior to the game.  

Basics

The Saints took an early lead in the first inning. Madison Garza hit a deep single to right field that scored Cassandra Valdez from first base. The Generals went up 2-1 in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run. They added another run in the fifth inning on an RBI ground out. The Saints were unable to score in the final two innings and lost 3-1. Valdez lost her first game in the circle this season after 5.1 innings with three earned runs. Ava Hernandez pitched the final 1.2 innings and didn't allow a run. The Saints were limited to two hits while the Generals totaled 12.  

Up next

The Saints will face No. 5 Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) for the second time in the tournament. The game will be at 12 p.m. tomorrow and the winner will move on to face LSUA in the championship game. The winner of the OLLU versus TAMUT game will have to beat LSUA twice to claim the championship.
