Softball Takes on Texarkana in RRAC Championship Tournament Elimination Game

SAN ANTONIO (May 6, 2024) - The NAIA No. 1-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball squad plays Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) in an elimination game at the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Championship Tournament today. The Saints are the No. 1 seed, and the Eagles are the No. 5 seed.

The Saints had their 45-game winning streak snapped yesterday against No. 2 seed LSU-Alexandria. OLLU took an early lead in the first inning. Madison Garza hit a deep single to right field that scored Cassandra Valdez from first base. The Generals went up 2-1 in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run. They added another run in the fifth inning on an RBI ground out. The Saints were unable to score in the final two innings and lost 3-1. Valdez lost her first game in the circle this season after 5.1 innings with three earned runs. Ava Hernandez pitched the final 1.2 innings and didn't allow a run. The Saints were limited to two hits while the Generals totaled 12.

The Eagles defeated No. 6 seed Texas A&M University-San Antonio (TAMUSA) and No. 3 seed the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) in the losers bracket yesterday. They scored 23 combined runs in the two victories while allowing nine. Both matchups were elimination games and TAMUT remained in the tournament.

The Saints beat the Eagles 9-1 in their second game of the tournament on Saturday. The winner of today's game will move on to face LSU-Alexandria in the championship and will need to win twice to claim the title, as the Generals have not lost in the tournament. The games will be played at Champions Sportsplex in Lecompte, La.
