Softball Wraps Up Play at RRAC Championship Tournament

LECOMPTE, LA. (May 6, 2024) - The NAIA No. 1-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team eliminated Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) and lost to LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) at the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Championship Tournament on Monday. LSUA won the tournament after defeating the Saints in the championship game. The Saints are now 50-3 on the season. 

Head Coach Bruce Lenington commented, "I'm proud of the work our players put in today. We definitely need to tip our cap to LSUA as they were clearly the better team this weekend and deserved to be the champions. We're excited to get home and see who is coming to the San Antonio regional."

vs. TAMUT

The Saints eliminated the Eagles in the first game on Monday to mark their 50th win on the season. OLLU's first four runs of the contest were all home runs. Alyssa Flores homered twice and finished with five RBIs. Madison Garza and Ava Hernandez also smacked home runs. The Eagles scored twice in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Saints responded in the bottom of the frame by plating five runs to lead 10-2. Marissa Bradley and Flores picked up RBIs and OLLU held the Eagles scoreless in the fifth inning to win in a run-rule. Cassandra Valdez earned the win in the circle to move to 23-1 on the season. She struck out five batters and allowed six hits.

vs. LSUA

The Generals scored one run in the first inning and left two runners on base. LSUA put up four more runs in the top of the third inning with two singles and a triple. The Saints lone run came in the fourth inning when Hernandez hit a solo home run, marking her second home run on the day. The Generals added one more run in the sixth inning before winning 6- to claim the title. Hernandez suffered the loss in the circle after giving up six earned runs in a complete game.
