Softball Blanks Madonna to Begin Play at NAIA World Series

COLUMBUS, GA. (May 24, 2024) - The NAIA No. 1-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team earned their first NAIA World Series victory in program history on Friday night. The Saints defeated Madonna University (MU) 3-0 to advance in the winners bracket. The No. 1 seed Saints improve to 54-3 while the No. 8 seed Crusaders drop to 53-5. 

History

This was the first matchup between the two programs. 

Basics

The first three innings were scoreless, but the Saints put runners on base with hard hits. OLLU put up the first run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Marissa Bradley doubled to left field to score Kayla Dreese. Bradley picked up another RBI in the sixth frame with a sacrifice fly to bring home Ava Hernandez. Bradi Hill later doubled down the left field line in the same inning to bring in Dreese. The Saints won 3-0 backed by eight hits. Cassandra Valdez pitched a solid game by allowing only two hits eight strikeouts. Valdez moves to 27-1 on the season with the win.
