Cassandra Valdez Named NAIA Softball All-American and Pitcher of the Year

KANSAS CITY, MO. (June 4, 2024) - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2024 Softball All-America teams as selected by the NAIA-Softball Coaches' Association All-America Committee. Cassandra Valdez of Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) is honored as the National Pitcher of the Year.

This marks the first time an OLLU student-athlete has been named a national player of the year in school history. Valdez was named a First-Team NAIA All-American in 2023 and received Honorable Mention honors in 2022.

Valdez, a graduate student, was the backbone of the Saints' success and a key player for OLLU. Her stellar performance, going 30-1 in the circle and finishing first in the nation with a 0.53 ERA in 197 innings pitched, was instrumental in the team's first Red Banner win in program and school history in 2024. Valdez's individual achievements, including allowing hitters just a .149 batting average in 2024 with a total of 286 strikeouts, further underline her contribution to the team's success.
