OLLU Women's Basketball Handles Texas College 62-58

TYLER, TEXAS (Dec. 8, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team downed Texas College (TC) 62-58 on Thursday. The Saints improve to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Lady Steers fall to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the RRAC.

The Saints were 21-2 against the Lady Steers prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints won a competitive conference matchup on Thursday night. The Saints shot over 50 percent from the field in both the first and second quarter. Michaela Verrett had six assists at halftime and Natalia Trevino added seven points.

The Lady Steers started to battle back in the third quarter. They outscored the Saints by two points to cut OLLU's advantage to 52-46. The Lady Steers tied the game in the fourth quarter 56-56 with under three minutes remaining. Trevino hit a key three-point shot and Tiffany Lopez followed with a layup. Angeline Sanchez picked up a late assist and hit a clutch free throw to give the Saints a 62-58 victory.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Trevino led the Saints with 20 points. Trevino also had a team-high seven rebounds. Verrett finished with eight assists.

Te'Aire Hambrick led TC with 12 points. Anayzia Jefferson grabbed four rebounds for the Lady Steers. Dyneshia Bailey and Hambrick led the team with three assists apiece.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 26-of-46 shooting for 56.5 percent, 7-of-13 from three-point range for 53.8 percent and 3-of-7 from the three-throw line for 42.9 percent. TC shot 21-of-43 for 48.8 percent, 4-of-15 three pointers for 26.7 percent and 12-of-16 from the free-throw line for 75 percent.

The Saints grabbed 27 rebounds while TC collected 15. OLLU forced 14 turnovers and committed 21.
