Saints Falter in Second Half Against TWU

SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 31, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team lost to Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) 80-59 on Saturday. The Saints drop to 8-5 overall while the Lady Rams improve to 11-1.

History

The Saints were 6-3 against the Lady Rams prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints and Lady Rams offenses were steady in the first half. Both teams posted 17 points in the first quarter and Natalia Trevino had nine points in the frame. The Lady Rams took a one-point lead into the locker room at halftime. Both squads shot over 40 percent from the field.

The Lady Rams took control of the game in the second half. They totaled nine offensive rebounds and forced 14 turnovers by the Saints. OLLU struggled on the boards with only nine rebounds in the second half. Trevino and Verrett finished with double-digit scoring despite Texas Wesleyan winning 80-59.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Trevino led the Saints with 20 points. Tiffany Lopez had a team-high seven rebounds. Cormia Lewis finished with four assists.

Kertisa Amos led TWU with 17 points. Zarria Carter grabbed eight rebounds for the Lady Rams. Amos and Mary Nyakundi led the team with three assists each.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 21-of-45 shooting for 46.7 percent, 4-of-10 from three-point range for 40 percent and 13-of-23 from the three-throw line for 56.5 percent. TWU shot 32-of-69 for 46.4 percent, 3-of-14 three pointers for 21.4 percent and 13-of-22 from the free-throw line for 59.1 percent.

The Saints grabbed 23 rebounds while Texas Wesleyan collected 40.
