OLLU women's basketball downs HTU 54-49

SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 11, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team won a close game against Huston-Tillotson University (HTU) 54-49 on Tuesday night. The Saints jump to 10-6 overall and 7-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Lady Rams drop to 6-7 overall and 5-4 in RRAC play.

History

The Saints were 29-1 against the Lady Rams prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints pulled out a win in a tightly contested game on Tuesday. OLLU started strong by outscoring the Lady Rams 17-6 in the first quarter. The Saints didn't allow a three-point shot on five attempts by HTU in the second quarter. Natalia Trevino had seven points at halftime and the Saints led 29-20.

The Saints took a 46-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Rams gained momentum with under two minutes remaining and cut the deficit to three points. The Saints took a timeout and the defense stepped up. They didn't allow any points in the final minute and hung on to win 54-49.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Trevino led the team with 13 points. Tiffany Lopez and Makayla White had a team-high seven rebounds apiece. Trevino finished with three assists.

Mycah McDonald led Huston-Tillotson with 21 points. Bre'Auna Smith grabbed eight rebounds for the Lady Rams. Three Lady Rams players had two assists each.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 19-of-41 shooting for 46.3 percent, 4-of-13 from three-point range for 30.8 percent and 12-of-21 from the three-throw line for 57.1 percent. Huston-Tillotson shot 17-of-61 for 27.9 percent, 3-of-21 three pointers for 14.3 percent and 12-of-17 from the free-throw line for 70.6 percent.

The Saints grabbed 32 rebounds while Huston-Tillotson collected 30.
