Saints Lose Low-Scoring Affair Against LSU-Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, LA. (Jan. 19, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team fell short against LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) 58-46 on Thursday. The Saints drop to 12-7 overall and 9-3 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Lady Pilots jump to 16-4 overall and 10-2 in RRAC play.

Assistant Coach Chris Burks commented, "Our squad played hard tonight. I was proud of their energy and effort defensively. Sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce our way in close games. We need these challenges to get to where we want to be. We can take many positives from the game tonight and learn what adjustments we can make for future games."

History

The Saints were 18-16 against the Lady Pilots prior to the game.

Basics

Both teams struggled shooting from the field on Thursday night. The first quarter was evenly played, and Natalia Trevino had five points for the Saints. The Saints only shot 3-of-13 from the field in the second quarter and trailed by five points at halftime. OLLU forced five turnovers in the first half.

The Saints kept the game in reach in the third quarter. Both squads shot under 35 percent from the field and OLLU shot 40 percent from three-point range. OLLU was unable to comeback in the fourth quarter and the Lady Pilots totaled 31 points off the bench throughout the game. Tiffany Lopez finished with double-digit points for the Saints.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Lopez led the team with 12 points. Carrie Barrera-Lacy had a team-high seven rebounds. Trevino finished with three assists.

Chelsey White led LSUS with 12 points. Angel Reese and Tyquanna Ross grabbed six rebounds apiece for the Lady Pilots. Three Lady Pilots players had two assists each.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 17-of-50 shooting for 34 percent, 5-of-13 from three-point range for 38.5 percent and 7-of-9 from the three-throw line for 77.8 percent. LSUS shot 19-of-53 for 35.8 percent, 4-of-18 three pointers for 22.2 percent and 16-of-20 from the free-throw line for 80 percent.

The Saints grabbed 28 rebounds while LSUS collected 32.
