Saints Outlasted by LSU-Alexandria 68-53

ALEXANDRIA, LA. (Jan. 21, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team dropped a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) game against LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) 68-53 on Saturday. The Saints are now 12-8 overall and 9-4 in the RRAC. The Generals improve to 7-12 overall and 6-6 in RRAC play.

Assistant Coach Chris Burks said, "We executed defensively today. LSU-Alexandria came out hot and slowed down in the second half. We stuck to the plan and had an opportunity to complete the comeback, but we didn't take advantage. We have to be better next time and seize the opportunities we create for ourselves."

History

The Saints were 12-1 against the Generals prior to the game. OLLU defeated LSUA 65-54 last month.

Basics

The Saints struggled shooting in the first quarter. They missed four three-point attempts and went 6-of-20 from the field. The Generals shot over 40 percent from both the field and the three-point line. OLLU corrected their mistakes in the second quarter by posting 24 points. Tiffany Lopez had seven points in the frame and Carrie Barrera-Lacy grabbed four rebounds. LSUA took a 10-point advantage into the locker room.

Both squads totaled 10 points in the third quarter. The Saints were unable to complete a comeback after posting only seven points in the fourth quarter. Despite the loss, OLLU impressed by totaling 22 points in the paint and limited LSUA to 12.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Madelyn Soto led the team with 15 points. Lopez and Makayla White had a team-high eight rebounds each. Barrera-Lacy and Natalia Trevino finished with three assists apiece.

Dannah Martin-Hartwick led LSUA with 14 points. Amani Gray grabbed eight rebounds for the Generals. Gray also totaled five assists.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 22-of-62 shooting for 35.5 percent, 4-of-17 from three-point range for 23.5 percent and 5-of-9 from the three-throw line for 55.6 percent. LSUA shot 23-of-62 for 37.1 percent, 11-of-28 three pointers for 39.3 percent and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line for 91.7 percent.

The Saints grabbed 36 rebounds while LSUA collected 38.
