Saints Finish Season in Low-Scoring Loss to XULA

ALEXANDRIA, LA. (Feb. 24, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team lost to Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) 49-37 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Tournament Quarterfinals to end the season. The Saints complete the 2022-2023 campaign with a 15-13 overall record and 12-8 mark in conference. At the conclusion of the tournament, Tiffany Lopez was selected to the All-Tournament team.

Head Coach Tanya Ray said, "Today just wasn't our day. We never got it going on offense and we had too many turnovers. You have to value every possession. I wish we could have had a few of those back."

History

The Saints were 5-4 against the Gold Nuggets prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints struggled shooting in a loss to Xavier on Friday. Tiffany Lopez led the team in the first half with eight points, but the Saints turned the ball over 10 times. The Gold Nuggets shot over 30 percent from the field in both the first and second quarter. Xavier closed the second quarter on a 6-0 run and led 24-18 at halftime.

OLLU continued to have trouble shooting in the second half. They shot 3-of-12 from the field in the third quarter and 2-of-10 in the fourth quarter. Lopez was the lone Saint with double-digit points at the final buzzer. Makayla White added seven rebounds but the Saints fell 49-37.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Lopez led the Saints with 15 points. White grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals. Natalia Trevino finished with three assists.

Abryhia Irons led XULA with 15 points. Ja'Kiylah Esco grabbed eight rebounds. Nia Bishop finished with four assists.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 11-of-41 shooting for 26.8 percent, 4-of-14 from three-point range for 28.6 percent and 11-of-14 from the three-throw line for 78.6 percent. XULA shot 20-of-57 for 35.1 percent, 2-of-12 three pointers for 16.7 percent and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line for 70 percent.

The Saints grabbed 24 rebounds while Xavier collected 35.
