Women's Basketball Downs Trinity Christian College 78-64

SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 12, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team earned the first win of the season in a 78-64 victory over Trinity Christian College (TCC) on Saturday in the Halo Classic. The Saints improve to 1-1 on the season while the Trolls drop to 0-5.

History

This was the first meeting between the two teams.

Basics

The Saints started strong in the first quarter by grabbing five offensive rebounds. Six different Saints scored in the first frame and forced six turnovers by the Trolls. Both teams scored single digits in the second quarter and the Saints headed into halftime up 32-25. Deja Williams had nine points at the break.

OLLU's offense continued to impress in the second half. They scored 46 points while limiting the Trolls to 39. The Saints finished with 36 points in the paint and had 10 fastbreak points. They limited Trinity to 20 percent shooting from three-point range and OLLU capitalized with 24 points off turnovers. Three Saints players finished with double-digit scoring.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Tiffany Lopez led the Saints with 17 points. Lopez also tallied a team-high eight rebounds. Deja Hinson led the Saints with four assists.

Desire Berrian led TCC with 15 points. Berrian also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Sedona Anderson led the team with four assists.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 30-of-66 shooting for 45.5 percent, 6-of-16 from three-point range for 37.5 percent and 12-of-21 from the free-throw line for 57.1 percent. TCC shot 23-of-55 for 41.8 percent, 3-of-15 three pointers for 20 percent and 15-of-19 from the free-throw line for 78.9 percent.

The Saints grabbed 39 rebounds while TCC collected 32. The Saints forced 20 turnovers and committed 12.
