Women's Basketball Falls Short Against SCU

BETHANY, OKLA. (Nov. 21, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team was ousted by Southwestern Christian University (SCU) 62-52 on Tuesday night. The Saints move to 1-3 on the season while the Eagles improve to 3-2.

Head Coach Tanya Ray, "We had another night where we could not find a rhythm offensively. We did not do a good job of moving the ball most of the night. We have to get back to practice and figure out some things out as we look ahead to conference play next week."

History

The Saints were 1-1 against the Eagles prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints struggled offensively against the Eagles on Monday night. The first half was low-scoring with the Eagles leading 27-19 at the break. The teams were tied after the first quarter and the Saints grabbed three offensive rebounds. The Eagles outscored the Saints by eight in the second quarter backed by 50 percent shooting from the field.

OLLU had their strongest offensive performance in the third quarter. They scored 20 points with 10 being from the bench. The lead was too great to overcome in the fourth quarter and the Eagles won by 10 points. Deja Hinson finished with 12 points and the Saints forced 14 turnovers.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Hinson led the Saints with 12 points. Lopez grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Marta Gehlhaar and Carlea Owens had two assists each.

Delaney Riemer led SCU with 19 points. MJ Case grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and added 10 points for a double-double. Case also had three assists for the Eagles.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 22-of-58 shooting for 37.9 percent, 3-of-16 from three-point range for 18.8 percent and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line for 71.4 percent. SCU shot 24-of-58 for 41.4 percent, 6-of-22 three pointers for 27.3 percent and 8-of-14 from the free-throw line for 57.1 percent.

The Saints grabbed 32 rebounds while SCU collected 40.
