Women's Basketball Uses Strong Fourth Quarter to Down Texas College

TYLER, TEXAS (Dec. 4, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball squad won their second consecutive Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) game against Texas College (TC) on Saturday. The Saints improve to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Steers drop to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the RRAC.

Head Coach Tanya Ray said, "This was another good road win for us. We had another solid game defensively especially holding them to six points in the third quarter. We were able to execute well offensively in the fourth quarter while getting key stops when it mattered."

History

The Saints were 23-2 against the Steers prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints handled the Steers 66-54 on Saturday afternoon. Both teams shot well in the first quarter with the Steers leading by one point after the frame. The Saints outscored the Steers in the second quarter and the score was knotted at 29-29 heading into halftime. Tiffany Lopez had double-digit points in the first half and Deja Hinson collected four rebounds.

OLLU's defense limited the Steers to only six points in the third quarter. The Saints had 11 rebounds and Kalista Niu added five points. The Saints offense shot 70 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range to close out the game in the final quarter. They also forced six turnovers by the Steers and had five steals.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Lopez and Niu led the Saints with 16 points apiece. Lopez also had seven rebounds. Carrie Barrera-Lacy tallied seven assists for the Saints.

Mystique Womack led TC with 15 points. Keaundra Kelly grabbed eight rebounds. Cree McLemore led the team with four assists.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 22-of-44 shooting for 52.3 percent, 6-of-12 from three-point range for 50 percent and 12-of-14 from the free-throw line for 85.7 percent. TC shot 21-of-55 for 38.2 percent, 4-of-21 three pointers for 19 percent and 8-of-14 from the free-throw line for 57.1 percent.

Both teams grabbed 29 rebounds. The Saints committed 15 turnovers and forced 16.
