Women's Basketball Downs Paul Quinn 83-62

DALLAS (Jan. 11, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team defeated Paul Quinn College (PQC) 83-62 on Thursday night. The Saints improve to 4-9 overall and 3-5 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Tigers drop to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in conference.

Head Coach Tanya Ray commented, "This was a very good team win tonight. I'm proud of our effort and focus for 40 minutes. Tiffany Lopez had a great game for us offensively but overall, we did a good job of sharing the ball as was evident with our numbers."

History

The Saints were 23-1 against the Tigers prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints recorded their highest scoring game of the season on Thursday night. They totaled 36 points in the first half and limited the Tigers to 21. OLLU's offense continued to shine following the 15-point lead at halftime. They scored 29 points to close the game in the final quarter. Tiffany Lopez finished with a career-high 28 points. Cormia Lewis and Julia Plata also had double-digit scoring. Plata tallied 29 minutes off the bench and shot 50 percent from the field.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Lopez led the Saints with 28 points. Kalista Niu tallied a team-high eight rebounds. Niu also led the Saints with five assists.

Canai McPherson led PQC with 23 points. Marquise Nelso grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Kayla Webster and Ahlura Lofton led the team with four assists apiece.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 35-of-73 shooting for 47.9 percent, 4-of-17 from three-point range for 23.5 percent and 9-of-14 from the free-throw line for 64.3 percent. PQC shot 23-of-56 for 41.1 percent, 7-of-23 three pointers for 30.4 percent and 9-of-13 from the free-throw line for 69.2 percent.

The Saints grabbed 37 rebounds while PQC collected 36. The Saints forced 20 turnovers and committed 12.
