OLLU's Tiffany Lopez Leads the Saints to a Victory Over Paul Quinn

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 8, 2024)  – Fueled by Tiffany Lopez's fifth double-double of the season, the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball's team defeated Paul Quinn College (PQC) 60-56. The Saints are now 8-13 overall and 7-9 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC), while the Tigers fall to 3-19 overall and 2-15 in conference.

History

The Saints are 24-1 against Paul Quinn. Earlier this season, OLLU won 83-62.

Basics

The Tigers started the game on a 10-0 run before the Saints could score at the 4:52 mark. With the score at 12-2, the Saints went on an 8-0 run of their own, and they took  the lead for the first time in the game with eight seconds left in the first quarter 15-14. The Tigers went through the first four minutes without scoring in the second quarter, and they were finally able to make a three at the 6:06 mark. The Saints held the Tigers to just three more points through the half while eading 31-20.

The Saints continued to dominate in the third quarter. PQC came back to trail by two points at 46-48. The game finished with the Saints winning 60-56.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Lopez led the Saints with 17 points and 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. . Lopez has missed scoring in double digits just two times this year.

Sydney Brown led the Tigers with 19 points. Marquise Nelson, who scored 10 points and tallied 11 rebounds, fouled out in the fourth quarter, leaving just four players on the court.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 25-of 61 shooting for 41 percent, 2-of-14 from three-point range for 33.3 percent and hit 8-of-12 free throws for 66.7 percent. PQC shot 18-of-52 for 34.6 percent, 8-of-30 three pointers for 26.7 percent and 7-of-17 from the free-throw line for 66.7 percent.

The Saints grabbed 35 rebounds while PQC collected 39. The Saints forced 25 turnovers and committed 15.
