Saints Women Overpowered by LSU-Alexandria 62-54

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 15, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team lost to LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) 62-54 on Thursday night. The Saints are now 8-15 overall and 7-11 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Generals improve to 18-5 overall and 15-3 in conference play.

History

The Saints were 13-3 against the Generals prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints struggled offensively in the first half. They shot 33.3 percent from the field in the first quarter and 0-for-6 from three-point range. OLLU limited the Generals to 34.8 percent shooting in the second quarter but trailed by 19 points at halftime. Cormia Lewis had eight points at the break.

OLLU outscored the Generals in the second half, but the deficit was too large to overcome. They totaled 32 points in the frame backed by 50 percent shooting in the final quarter. The Saints defense stepped up in the fourth quarter as well by limiting the Generals to seven points. The Generals won by eight points after holding off a Saints comeback attempt late in the game.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Lewis led the Saints with 16 points. Lopez tallied a team-high eight rebounds. Lopez also totaled five assists.

Raegan Ojoro and Benedetta Peracchi led LSUA with 13 points apiece. Peracchi and Blair Smith grabbed a team-high nine rebounds each. Dannah Martin-Hartwick led the team with four assists.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 22-of-53 shooting for 41.5 percent, 3-of-16 from three-point range for 18.8 percent and hit 7-of-11 free throws for 63.6 percent. LSUA shot 24-of-72 for 33.3 percent, 4-of-15 three pointers for 26.7 percent and 10-of-14 from the free-throw line for 71.4 percent.

The Saints grabbed 29 rebounds while LSUA collected 42. The Saints forced 10 turnovers and committed 16.
