
Shooting Woes Costs Women's Basketball in Loss to LSU Alexandria
SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 21, 2024) - The Our Lady of the Lake (OLLU) women's basketball team suffered their third straight loss on Saturday afternoon as they fell to LSU Alexandria by a score of 72-56. The Saints struggled to make shots, shooting just 26% from the field in the loss. The Saints record falls to 6-7 overall and 4-6 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play.
The first quarter was played evenly as it ended in an 18-all tie, but the Saints went cold in the second quarter, scoring just nine points while the Generals posted another 18 points to take a nine-point advantage into the lockerroom. Six of the OLLU nine points came from the free throw line in the second frame. Julia Plata was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line while Samantha Fields knocked down a three-pointer in the quarter. At the half, the Generals led 36-27.
Offensive struggles continued for the Saints out of the break as OLLU scored seven points in the third quarter. The Saints got things going in the fourth frame, scoring 22 points, led by Carlea Owens who netted 14 points in the final quarter on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Owens finished with a game-high 20 points to go with 13 rebounds including seven offensive boards.
Plata notched double figures with 14 points, her 11th double figure scoring effort of the season.
The Saints will take a break from conference play until 2025. Their next contest will be on December 29 in an exhibition at University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
