Owens Scores Career-High 22 Points in Loss to Mustangs

HOBBS, N.M. (January 4, 2025) – Carlea Owens had an impressive showing on Thursday night, scoring a career-high 22 as the Our Lady of the Lake (OLLU) Women's Basketball team dropped a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) contest to the University of the Southwest (USW) by a score of 73-59. Owens finished the night shooting 10-of-16 from the field.

The loss moves the Saints to 6-8 overall on the season and 4-7 in RRAC action.

Trailing by just two after the first frame, the Saints were outscored 24-10 in the second quarter and trailed 43-27 at the break. Despite winning the third quarter and played the Mustangs even in the final stanza, the Saints halftime deficit was too much to overcome.

Julia Plata and Alex Westerdijk Martin each finished in double figures as Plata contributed 15 points and Westerdijk chipped in with 10. The double-figure scoring effort from Plata was her 12th in 14 games this season. Her 16.7 points per game ranks fifth in the RRAC and 67th in the country.

Desiree Rogers led the Saints with eight rebounds to go along with four points. Evangeline Hernandez dished out a team-high five assists in the loss.

Conference play will continue for the Saints as they travel to Paul Quinn College for a Saturday matchup with the Tigers. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Health & Wellness Center. To watch the game live click HERE.
