Women's Golf Starts Season on Sept. 29 in Kingsland, Texas

SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 27, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's golf program, which began in 2008 and competed for two years before suspending the program, made a remarkable comeback in 2020-2021. The Saints, now in their fifth season and seventh overall, have shown incredible resilience and determination. The women will kick off the season with a tournament in Kingsland, Texas, from Sept. 30-Oct. 1.

2023-2024 season overview

Last season, the women played in eight tournaments and won one of those – the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) Fall Classic in mid-October. Then freshman Kendall Ward finished in first place. They also finished second in two matches – the UHV Classic in the fall and the Texas Wesleyan University Invitational in the spring. They placed third in the Red River Athletic Conference hosted by UHV. At the tournament, the Saints had four out of five players finish in the top 10. Last year's senior Madelyn Miller placed fifth and made the All-Tournament Team.  Kendall Ward was seventh, followed by Ceci Lattuada in eighth, and Annabelle Reyna came in 10th. Lattuada was named to the All-Conference Team, while Ward received Freshman of the Year honors.

 Fall overview

The Saints will play a handful of tournaments in the fall, beginning with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Kingsland, Texas, Sept. 29-Oct. 1. They will head out to Victoria, Texas, for the UHV Fall Classic and finish at the University of Dallas Fall Classic Oct. 27-29.  

Spring schedule

Head Coach Arnie Martinez is finalizing the spring schedule, but the Red River Athletic Conference / Frontier Conference / Continental Athletic Conference Championships will take place from April 28 to May 1 in Kansas. More details will be available soon.

Newcomers

Newcomers include freshmen Samantha Garcia, from Kenedy, Texas, Victoria Rodriguez from Carrizo Springs, Texas, and sophomore Caroline Garcia from Spring Branch, Texas.

Returners

This year's team includes graduate student Ceci Lattuada, the Saints' all-time leading female golfer in history. Lattuada has played in the most tournaments (27, tied with Madelyn Miller), has the best scoring average (80.42), most tournament wins (3), most rounds shooting par or better (5), most rounds played (56, tied with Madelyn Miller), best round in a season (71 in 2023; 73 in 2021; 74 in 2024; 74 in 2021) and lowest second round score (69 in 2021; 72 in 2023 and 2024; 73 in 2023). Lattuada returns for her MBA.

Seniors who have played four years for the Saints include Alexis Calzada from Georgetown, Texas; Miliani Georges from San Antonio; Alahnna Limones from Converse, Texas; and Annabelle Reyna from San Antonio.

Playing in their sophomore season are Grayson Weiler from Schertz, Texas, and Kendall Ward from Spring, Texas.

Staff

Head Coach Arnie Martinez, who is in his sixth season with the Saints, welcomes back Allison Trevino. She returns for her third season as assistant coach for the women.  

Academic success

The women's team not only excelled on the course but also in the classroom, earning their fourth NAIA Scholar Team award. Their collective GPA of 3.624 was the second highest among all 18 teams at OLLU. Notably, Alexis Calzada and last year's seniors Madelyn Miller and Christina Trujillo finished with a perfect 4.0. Ceci Lattuada had a 3.67, followed by Annabelle Reyna with a 3.60, Grayson Weiler with a 3.51, Kendall Ward with a 3.32, Alahnna Limones with a 3.3 and Miliani Georges with a 3.15. Their academic success is a testament to their dedication and discipline.
