Offense Shines As OLLU Women's Soccer Beats WBU

PLAINVIEW, TEXAS (Sept. 6, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team downed Wayland Baptist University (WBU) 5-1 on Tuesday. The Saints improve to 2-0 while the Pioneers fall to 0-2-2.

Head Coach Arthur Salazar commented, "We controlled the tempo of the game and created several good scoring chances. It was nice to see our attacking players capitalize on opportunities since it's something we've been missing in previous outings. The performance was another step in the right direction."

The Saints are 4-1 in the all-time series against the Pioneers.

Basics

The first half was very competitive with multiple shots on goal from both programs. The Saints struck first at the 10th minute with a goal from Kyleigh Spree-Kolos. She scored after the ball was sent in from a corner kick and was booted around a few times. Emerson Weiler was credited with the assist. The Pioneers responded quickly at the 14-minute mark to level the score. Ez Valles put the Saints back ahead 2-1 just seconds before halftime. She scored from 15 yards out to send the Saints to the locker room with the advantage.

Spree-Kolos opened the second half with another goal to give the Saints a 3-1 advantage. She scored after a free kick that went deep into the box. Bethany Garr picked up the assist on the play. The Saints offense continued to impress when Ambree Rheinberger scored from close range just three minutes later. Spree-Kolos earned a hat-trick with a goal from 10 yards out in the 68th minute. The Saints won 5-1 backed by 12 shots on goal.
