Saints Women's Soccer Marks Dominating 3-0 Win Over LSU-Alexandria

SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 29, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team dominated LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) by a final score of 3-0.

The Saints improve to 3-2-4  overall and 1-0-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Generals drop to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in.

History

The Saints are 9-1-1 against the Generals. The Saints' only loss to LSUA came in 2017 by the score of 0-2.

Basics

Madison Herrera set the pace for the game within the first few minutes of the game with a near goal that was saved by LSUA's Alyssa Andrea. The teams traded possession for the next 20 minutes until Ez Vallez found the net off a deflection off the post to put the Saints up by one. The period ended with a Rachel Dziuba shot that went high, followed by a shot on goal from LSUA's B. Rivera that was saved by OLLU keeper Tess Pitcher.

The Saints wasted little time in the second period to score. Sara Garza snuck a far-reaching kick into the net to give the Saints the 2-0 lead at the 51st minute. With less than 20 minutes remaining in the game, LSUA's Rosie Freeman was assessed a yellow card, giving OLLU the penalty kick option. Riley Perez shot it straight through to move OLLU to 3-0.

The Saints were shown to yellow cards late in the game, one to Samantha Benne and the other to Irania Acosta. Despite the setback, the Saints finished out the game with their first conference win of the season.
