Saints Women's Soccer Finishes In 1-1 Draw Against Houston-Victoria

VICTORIA, TEXAS (Oct. 20, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) vs. University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) match finished in 1-1 draw this afternoon. The Saints move to 6-3-6 overall and 4-1-3 in the Red River Athletic Conference, while the Jaguars are now 9-2-4 overall and 6-1-2 in conference.

Head Coach Arthur Salazar commented, "The first 50 minutes of the match was arguably the best we have played all season with respect to possession and moving the ball around to break down the defense. Unfortunately, after we scored early in the second half, we didn't respond well and struggled to find our composure for  the remainder of the second half."

History

The Saints are 13-1-2 against UHV. The teams tied last year 3-3. The Saints only loss came in 2012.

Basics

The Saints had the most chances in the first half. Shots from Ez Valles and Kyleigh Spree-Kolos were blocked, and a near goal followed from Spree-Kolos. Four more shots ensued by the Saints, but they all came up short and the half ended with neither team scoring.

The Saints scored within one minute of the start of the second half. Spree-Kolos found the net to put the Saints ahead 1-0. Ten minutes later, Spree-Kolos had another chance to score, but was valiantly saved by the UHV keeper.

The Saints continued to have chances but could not follow through. With less than eight minutes remaining in the match, UHV's Clara Strand scored the equalizer on an assist from Estelle Flanagan.

Neither team had any success so the game ended with a draw.
