Saints Women's Soccer Scores Eight Goals in Romp Over Paul Quinn

SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 30, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team crushed Paul Quinn College (PQC) 8-0 in a Red River Athletic Conference matchup. The Saints improve to 6-2 and 5-1 in conference, while PQC drops to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in conference.

The Saints are 9-0 against the Tigers. The Saints have never allowed a goal against the Tigers.

Basics

The Saints started the game with four shots by Sara Garza, Ez Valles, Allison Kostoch and Vivianna Gutierrez before Kostoch found the back of the net on an assist from Lyndee Rheinberger. The Saints continued to keep the action on their side of the field except for one shot by PQC's Daisy Robledo. OLLU was fouled inside the box resulting in a penalty kick. Jaylin Seto took the shot and scored to give the Saints the 2-0 lead. In the 33rd minute, Haven Ortiz scored an unassisted goal and after four more Saints' shots, the half ended.

The Saints didn't take long to score in the second half as Leah Tapia found the net on an assist from Samantha Nava at the 50th minute. Three minutes later, Emerson Weiler shot a penalty kick that went into the net to give the Saints the 5-0 lead. PQC's goalkeeper Fernanda Rosas got eliminated from the game on a red card after a harsh tackle.  A minute later at the 57th minute, Ez Valles scored on an assist from Nava. Bethany Garr shot the ball in at the 77th minute to give the Saints the 7-0 lead. With two minutes left in the game, Lilliana Martinez scored and the Saints won 8-0.

OLLU's Tess Pitcher had no saves and earned her sixth win of the season. Samantha Valadez played the second half and recorded one save. PQC's Fernanda Rosas, who played 56 minutes before receiving a red card, logged eight saves and had five goals scored against her. Samantha Burks had four saves and had three goals against her.
