Women's Soccer Ties With A&M-San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 7,2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team tied with Texas A&M University – San Antonio (A&M-SA) this afternoon in a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) matchup. The 0-0 match moves the Saints to 6-2-1 and 5-1-1 in conference, while A&M-SA is now 4-1-3 and 3-1-3 in conference.

Head Coach Victoria Vazquez commented, "Today was a tough battle against a tenacious A&M-SA team. It was an extremely physical game. We are content with the point."

History

The Saints are 1-0-2 against th Jaguars. In 2021, the Saints won 7-0 and last year, the teams tied.

Basics

The Jaguars displayed dominance in the first half as they took eight straight shots before the Saints were able to take a chance. Saints keeper Tess Pitcher protected the net on four of those shots. Sara Garza took the Saints first shot at the 23rd minute and Jaylin Seto sent one wide right at the 30th minute. Both teams were unsuccessful in scoring as the half ended.

The second half featured more shots from the Jaguars through the 67th minute before Seto could try again. Leah Tapia took a shot on goal and Allison Kostoch had the last opportunity when she shot wide left at the 89th minute.

Inside the box score

The Saints had five shots and three on goal, while the Jaguars logged 19, 13 on goal.

OLLU recorded two corner kicks and the Jaguars took five. Both teams received two yellow cards each. OLLU team had one, and Vivianna Gutierrez was shown the other. A&M-SA's Brook Theis and Mackenzie Stewart received the cards.

OLLU's Tess Pitcher had 10 saves. A&M-SA's Maram Abdeljaber had three saves.
