Women's Soccer Falls Short Against Xavier in 2-1 Loss

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 12, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team lost a close match against Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) 2-1 on Thursday. The Saints fall to 6-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Gold Nuggets improve to 7-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.

History

This was the first meeting between the two programs.

Basics

Both teams scored early in the first half. The Gold Nuggets struck first in the 15th minute with a goal from Amora Altmon. The Saints responded two minutes later when Vivianna Gutierrez scored with an assist from Jaylin Seto. The Saints didn't allow a corner kick by the Gold Nuggets in the first half while taking two. The second half was scoreless until the 77th minute when Luci Schroeder broke the tie for Xavier. The Saints took a late corner kick by Ez Valles in the 89th minute but were unable to convert.
