ALEXANDRIA, LA. (Oct. 19, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team lost its conference match against LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) on Thursday by a score of 4-1. The Saints fall to 7-4-1 on the year and 6-3-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC), while the Generals improve to 11-3 and 8-1 in conference play.
History
The Saints were 9-1-1 against the Generals prior to the match.
Basics
Both teams would play closely early, with only four total shots in the first 20 minutes. However, Hannah Carter would open the scoring in the 27th minute, and the Generals would capitalize, putting all four of their goals on the board in the first half.
Though the Saints outshot the Generals in the second half, they would only score one goal, with Sara Garza finding the net in the 64th minute on an assist from Jaylin Seto. OLLU was unable to convert on three corner kicks in the final 10 minutes of the match.
"We had a great start to the game but ended up giving up a goal that just led to their capitalization of the momentum," Head Coach Victoria Vasquez said. "At half-time, we were able to regroup and refocus. I'm proud of our second-half response, but it was just too late."
