Early Scoring Lifts Women's Soccer Over Huston-Tillotson

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS (Oct. 30, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team closed the regular season with a 2-0 win over Huston-Tillotson University (HTU) on Monday. The Saints improve to 8-3-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) and 9-4-2 overall. The Rams drop to 3-13 overall and 3-10 in conference play.

Head Coach Victoria Vazquez said, "We're glad to have pulled away with three points. It would have been nice to finish more of our chances, but it was a chilly and windy game, and we adapted well. The next focus is on the Red River Athletic Conference Opening Round."

The Saints were 12-3 against the Rams prior to the match.

Basics

The Saints scored two goals within three minutes in the first half. Leah Tapia started the scoring at the 17th minute with an assist from Allison Kostoch. Sara Garza put the Saints up 2-0 minutes later and Kostoch assisted on the goal again. The Saints' defense didn't allow a shot by the Rams in the first frame.

The Rams' offense picked up in the second half. They outshot the Saints by five, but solid goaltending and four saves by Tess Pitcher held the score at 2-0. Pitcher earned the win in net and six different Saints had at least one shot on goal.
