Women's Tennis Opens Season at St. Mary's Invitational

SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 4, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's tennis team opened its fall schedule at the St. Mary's Invitational hosted by St. Mary's University on Sept. 2-3. The Saints won seven singles matches, while dropping nine; they won one doubles match and lost seven.

Head Coach Dave Watts commented, "This was a great season opener for the players. We ended on a positive note on Saturday with a straight sets win from freshman Kamryn Ortega and senior Brisa Gonzales. We hope to continue to build momentum into the ITA tournament at the end of the month."

Saskia Vogelzang won one singles match as part of Flight A. She defeated Hannah Reyna 5-7/6-1 (10-3). Melanie Guzman Gonzalez won two singles matched in Flight F. She defeated Kylie Nutt 6-2/6-1 and Victoria Gonzalez 6-2/6-1.

Katica Ivic also won two singles matches. She defeated Kaitlyn Enloe 7-6 (4)/6-2 and Amy Lowe 6-4/6-2.

Kamryn Ortega won her singles match against Abbie Speyer 6-2/6-1, and Brisa Gonzales won her singles match against Allie Speyer 6-3/7-5.

In doubles, Guzman and Vogelzang defeated Reyna Deininger 6-4.
