Volleyball Drops Close Match Against No. 17-ranked Bellevue

SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 17, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team fell to No. 17-ranked Bellevue University (BU) in four sets on Thursday night to start the Alamo City Volleyesta. The tournament will continue with five games on Friday and four on Saturday.

History

The Saints lost the only previous meeting against the Bruins.

Basics

The Saints started strong against the Bruins on Thursday night, but eventually lost in four sets. OLLU played a solid first set with 12 kills and only three errors. The second set was tightly contested but the Bruins pulled away late in the frame. Bellevue's best set of the night was the third game. They totaled 10 kills and only two errors, while the Saints had a negative hitting percentage. The Saints battled in the fourth game, but the Bruins capitalized on attack errors by OLLU to seal the match.

In the first set, OLLU recorded 12 kills and three errors on 35 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .257.

The Saints had 12 kills in the second set and seven errors on 39 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .128.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 11 kills and 12 errors on 43 total attacks for a hitting percentage of -.023.

The Saints had eight kills in the fourth set and six errors on 40 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .050.

On the offense

Overall, the Saints had 43 kills for a hitting percentage of .096. Bellevue totaled 46 kills for a hitting percentage of .181.

Mia Francis led the Saints with 16 kills. Allie Kerns totaled a team-high 13 kills each for the Bruins.

Lauren Reynard assisted on 29 plays for the Saints while Jada Nunn tallied 18 assists for Bellevue.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 67 digs, led by Tina Trevino with 20. Taylan Keefer tallied 18 digs for the Bruins.

Serving it up

Madalyn Gonzalez had two service aces for the Saints. Mila Aiwohi and Eve Fountain had two aces each for Bellevue.
