Saints Complete Play at Alamo City Volleyesta

SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 19, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team lost the remaining three matches in the Second Annual Alamo City Volleyesta on Friday and Saturday. The Saints were defeated by Loyola University New Orleans (LOY) and NAIA No. 1-ranked University of Jamestown (UJ) on Friday. They closed the tournament with a competitive loss to No. 23-ranked Texas Wesleyan University (TWU). The Saints fell to NAIA No. 17-ranked Bellevue University on Thursday and start the season 0-4.


vs. Loyola University New Orleans (Friday)

Basics

The Saints struggled in a three-set loss to Loyola in the first match on Friday. The first set was a back-and-forth battle and Loyola escaped with a 25-23 win. The Wolf Pack's offensive attack was on display in the second set by posting a hitting percentage of .308. They totaled 11 kills in the third set to seal the sweep. The Saints' best hitting percentage was in the first set at .316. Mia Dorsey finished with double-digit kills.

In the first set, OLLU recorded 15 kills and three errors on 38 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .316.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 10 kills and 10 errors on 41 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .000.

On the offense

Overall, the Saints had 34 kills for a hitting percentage of .155. Loyola totaled 42 kills for a hitting percentage of .340.

Dorsey led the Saints with 15 kills. Amaya Bazemore totaled a team-high nine kills for the Wolf Pack.

Lauren Reynard assisted on 30 plays for the Saints while Ellie Connor tallied 19 assists for Loyola.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 34 digs, led by Tina Trevino with 10. Simone Tyson tallied 12 digs for the Wolf Pack.

Serving it up

Three different players had one service ace each for the Saints. Loyola also had three players with one service ace apiece.


vs. University of Jamestown (Friday)

Basics

The NAIA No. 1-ranked University of Jamestown won a five-set thriller against OLLU. The Jimmies took the first set 25-22. The Saints led by three points late in the frame, but Jamestown strung together kills to finish the set. The Saints had a negative hitting percentage in the second set, and Jamestown took advantage for a 25-13 victory. OLLU fought back to take the third set and followed with a 25-22 fourth set decision. Following the fifth-set decider by OLLU, the Jimmies won the match with a 15-9 advantage. Camila Ramirez and Mia Dorsey had double-digit kills despite the loss.

OLLU had a total of 70 digs, led by Trevino with 27. Ellie Holen tallied 47 digs for the Jimmies.

Dorsey led the Saints with three service aces. Grace Hegerle and Lily Bertsch had three service aces each for the Jimmies.


vs. Texas Wesleyan University (Saturday)

Basics

The Saints finished the tournament with a competitive match against the Rams on Saturday. OLLU won the first set with 52 total attacks and 16 kills. The second set was controlled by the Saints, but they faltered late in the frame. The Rams won five straight points to take the set 26-24 and even the match. The third and fourth sets were both a battle and Texas Wesleyan won by slim margins. Reynard assisted on 51 plays and four Saints players tallied double-digit digs.

Mia Francis led the Saints with 20 kills. Hannah Rubis totaled a team-high 14 kills for the Rams.

Reynard assisted on 51 plays for the Saints while Ruby O'Brien tallied 24 assists for Texas Wesleyan.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 103 digs, led by Trevino and Dorsey with 21 digs apiece. Andrea Malek tallied 35 digs for the Rams.

Serving it up

The Saints didn't record a service ace while the Rams were led by America Galvan with three.
