SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 26, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team won two out of three matches in the San Antonio ShinDig on Friday and Saturday. The Saints defeated the NAIA's No. 10-ranked Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) on Friday, followed by a loss against Carroll College (CC) to start play on Saturday and a victory over Oklahoma City University (OCU) to close the tournament.
vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Friday)
Basics
The Saints started the San Antonio ShinDig strong with a sweep against SAGU on Friday night. They won the first two sets behind 11 kills in each of the frames. They finished the match with a .250 hitting percentage in the third set by tallying 16 kills and only five errors. OLLU had five service aces and three players had over 30 total attacks apiece. This was the second time in program history that the Saints defeated a top 10 team in the NAIA. In 2016, they defeated the NAIA's No. 1 ranked team Columbia College.

In the first set, OLLU recorded 11 kills and seven errors on 38 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .105.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 16 kills and five errors on 44 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .250.
On the offense
Overall, the Saints had 38 kills for a hitting percentage of .154. SAGU totaled 24 kills for a hitting percentage of .028.
Mia Francis led the Saints with 15 kills. Karena Tipton totaled a team-high seven kills for the Lions.
Lauren Reynard assisted on 36 plays for the Saints while Riley Burcham tallied 21 assists for SAGU.
Defensive standouts
OLLU had a total of 50 digs, led by Tina Trevino with 18. Taylor Cavozos and Tessa Glick tallied nine digs each for the Lions.
Serving it up
Julissa Casas led the Saints with two service aces. Kya Bock had one service ace for the Lions.
vs. Carroll College (Saturday)
Basics
OLLU struggled against the Fighting Saints to open play on Saturday. The Saints took the first set behind 14 kills and 45 total attacks. Carroll turned the momentum and won three straight sets to take the match. The Saints committed 11 service errors and Carroll hit .278 in the fourth and final set. Mia Francis finished with 25 kills, which ranks third in OLLU history for a single match.

Francis led the Saints with 25 kills. Sidney Gulick and Mara Lynch totaled a team-high 13 kills each for the Fighting Saints.
Reynard assisted on 48 plays for the Saints while Maddie Wilkes tallied 30 assists for Carroll.
Defensive standouts
OLLU had a total of 86 digs, led by Trevino with 34. Julia Carr tallied 33 digs for the Fighting Saints.
Serving it up
Camila Ramirez recorded the lone service ace for OLLU. Wilkes had two service aces for the Fighting Saints.
vs. Oklahoma City University (Saturday)
Basics
The last match of the tournament was controlled by the Saints in a three-set victory over OCU. The Saints excelled in the first set with 16 kills and a .300 hitting percentage. The second set was a battle, with the Saints closing the frame on a kill by Mia Francis. The Stars had higher hitting percentages than the Saints in the second and third sets, but OLLU prevailed.

OLLU had a total of 69 digs, led by Reynard with 16. Kaitlyn Dunlap tallied 18 digs for the Stars.

Casas and Dorsey had two services aces each for OLLU. Adams had three service aces for the Stars.
