Volleyball Finishes Labor Day Classic With Loss to IUK

BELLEVUE, NEB. (Sept. 2, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team fell short against Indiana University Kokomo (IUK) 3-1 to close competition at the Labor Day Classic in Bellevue, Neb. The Saints move to 3-8 on the season while the Cougars improve to 5-2.

Head Coach Scott Mattera commented, "This one really hurt because even though shorthanded, we felt like when we executed, our stuff worked. We made too many mistakes at key times. Getting to a level of performance that can compete at a national level is one thing, being able to sustain that level is another. We need to continue to grow in our consistency and I have no doubt that we will!"

Basics

The Saints battled but lost in three sets against IUK on Saturday morning. OLLU was held to a .098 hitting percentage in the first set and the Cougars committed only four errors. The second and third set were competitive, and the Saints hit over .300 in both frames. OLLU tallied more kills than IUK in the third set, but service aces late in the game gave the Cougars the victory.
