Saints Volleyball Dominate Louisiana Christian in Conference Sweep

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 20-21, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team swept Louisiana Christian University (LCU) in the Red River Athletic Conference two-day series.  OLLU is 14-11 overall and 11-1 in conference, while the Wildcats are 12-8 overall and 7-7 in conference.

History

The Saints are 6-0 against the Wildcats. Last year, the Saints defeated LCU 3-1 and 3-0 in the regular season and 3-1 in the postseason.


Friday

Basics

The Saints took charge in the first set from the beginning as they went up 6-3. The Wildcats fought back to tie 8-8, and then took turns leading with the Saints until OLLU took back the momentum at 20-18. The Saints finished the set with a kill from Mia Dorsey to win 25-20.

In the second set, the Saints once again led for the first part until the Wildcats tied the game at 11. They took the lead at 16-15, but the Saints regrouped to take back the lead at 17-16, limiting the Wildcats to one more point, while the Saints won 25-17.

The third was completely dominated by the Saints. Tory Rodriguez served to three points, Mia Francis served to four points, Julissa Casas served to three points and Mia Dorsey served to nine points to win the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.

Set review

In the first set, OLLU recorded 16 kills and four errors on 301 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .400. LCU recorded 11 kills, three errors on 27 attacks for .296.

The Saints had 16 kills in the second set and three errors on 40 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .325. LCU had nine kills, six errors and 26 total attacks for .083.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 15 kills and three errors on 30 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .400. LCU had nine kills, nine errors on 39 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .000.

On the offense

Overall, the Saints had 47 kills for a hitting percentage of .370. LCU totaled 29 kills for a hitting percentage of .108.

Mia Dorsey led the Saints with 16 kills. Lauren Reynard assisted on 40 plays for OLLU.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 52 digs, led by Tina Trevino with 21.

Serving it up

Trevino led the Saints with two service aces.


Saturday

Basics

The Wildcats took the early lead in the first set going up 7-2 before Mia Dorsey scored. That point propelled the Saints to come back to take over the lead at 9-8. The teams tied at 11, 12, 13, 14 and 17 before the Saints held onto the lead from 18-17 on to win 25-19.

The Saints led early, but the teams got into a battle with five, six, 11, 13, 14 and 16 ties. Mia Francis served an ace to give the Saints the 17-16 lead. She went on to score six points. Kills from Camila Ramirez and Mia Dorsey ended the set with the 25-19 win.

The Saints dominated the final set as they maintained the lead from the beginning. Back-to-back kills from Camila Ramirez ended the set with the 25-21 win.

Set review

In the first set, OLLU recorded 19 kills and six errors on 40 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .325. LCU recorded nine kills, three errors on 28 attacks for .214.

The Saints had 15 kills in the second set and five errors on 38 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .263. LCU had nine kills, six errors and 35 total attacks for .086.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 17 kills and six errors on 45 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .244. LCU had nine kills, eight errors on 46 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .022.

On the offense

Overall, the Saints had 51 kills for a hitting percentage of .276. LCU totaled 27 kills for a hitting percentage of .092.

Camila Ramirez led the Saints with 17 kills. Lauren Reynard assisted on 46 plays for OLLU.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 56 digs, led by Mia Francis with 13. Alison Mata, Mia Dorsey and Madalyn Gonzalez each had three block assists.

Serving it up

Mia Frances led the Saints with three service aces.
