Saints Volleyball Sweeps Pair of Matches Against Huston-Tillotson

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 28, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team swept both matches against Huston-Tillotson University (HTU) this weekend. The Saints improve to 16-11 overall and 13-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Rams drop to 4-18 overall and 3-9 in conference.

History

The Saints were 29-3 against the Rams prior to the matches.

First match (Oct. 27)

Basics

The Saints opened the weekend series against the Rams with a sweep. OLLU held the Rams to under .100 hitting in the second and third set. Six different Saints recorded at least one kill and Lauren Reynard assisted on 36 plays. The Saints had six service aces and Tina Trevino tallied double-digit digs. The Rams came back from a six-point deficit in the second frame, but the Saints were able to hold on to win 25-23.

Set review

In the first set, OLLU recorded 16 kills and five errors on 39 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .282.

The Saints had 14 kills in the second set and seven errors on 35 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .200.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 15 kills and eight errors on 43 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .163.

On the offense

Overall, the Saints had 45 kills for a hitting percentage of .214. HTU totaled 26 kills for a hitting percentage of .087.

Camila Ramirez led the Saints with 14 kills. Adeja Peterson totaled a team-high 10 kills for the Rams.

Reynard assisted on 36 plays for the Saints while Elaina Spriggins tallied 24 assists for HTU.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 60 digs, led by Trevino with 17. Jaalin Rosser tallied 12 digs for the Rams.

Serving it up

The Saints had six services aces while the Rams totaled five.


Second match (Oct. 28)

Basics

The Saints honored seniors Analisa Fernandez, Madalyn Gonzalez, Ashleigh Ramirez, Tory Rodriguez and Madelynn Strzelczyk prior to the match on Saturday. OLLU swept the Rams again and forced 21 errors by HTU. The Saints hit over .300 in the second and third set. The Rams were limited to -.179 hitting in the first set and .000 in the final frame. The Saints will host Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) for a pair of matches starting on Wednesday to close the regular season.

In the first set, OLLU recorded nine kills and three errors on 32 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .188.

The Saints had 16 kills in the second set and five errors on 32 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .344.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 16 kills and four errors on 28 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .429.

On the offense

Overall, the Saints had 41 kills for a hitting percentage of .315. HTU totaled 20 kills for a hitting percentage of -.010.

Ramirez led the Saints with 12 kills. Sydnee Jordan totaled a team-high five kills for the Rams.

Reynard assisted on 38 plays for the Saints while Spriggins tallied 16 assists for HTU.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 52 digs, led by Trevino with 20. Danelle McCullough tallied nine digs for the Rams.

Serving it up

The Saints had four services aces while the Rams totaled three.
