Volleyball Drops Two Matches to Close Volleyesta Tourney

SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 24, 2024) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team lost to No. 3-ranked Eastern Oregon University (EOU) and Cumberland University (CU) at the Volleyesta Tourney on Saturday. The Saints move to 3-5 on the season.

vs. Eastern Oregon University

Basics

The Saints fell to No. 3-ranked EOU in their third match at the Volleyesta Tourney. The Saints struggled offensively by hitting under .100 in all three sets. They totaled double-digit kills in the second and third frames, but the Mountaineers remained steady on offense. Lauren Reynard and Arianna Moreno tallied double-digit assists and OLLU had four service aces. Anais Velasquez finished with three solo blocks.

In the first set, OLLU recorded five kills and eight errors on 43 total attacks for a hitting percentage of -.070.

The Saints had 11 kills in the second set and eight errors on 32 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .094.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 11 kills and eight errors on 38 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .079.

On the offense

Overall, the Saints had 27 kills for a hitting percentage of .027. EOU totaled 33 kills for a hitting percentage of .170.

Mia Francis led the Saints with seven kills. Keira Vaughn totaled a team-high 11 kills for the Mountaineers.

Reynard assisted on 12 plays for the Saints while Hannah Ledgerwood tallied 18 assists for EOU.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 42 digs, led by Tina Trevino with nine. Hailey Arritola tallied 16 digs for the Mountaineers.

Serving it up

Four different Saints players had one ace apiece. Ledgerwood had two service aces for the Mountaineers.

vs. Cumberland University

Basics

OLLU was swept by Cumberland to end the Volleyesta Tourney. The Phoenix had double-digit kills in all three sets while the Saints failed to hit over .050. OLLU committed 21 errors on 98 total attacks. The Saints had six service aces and Francis totaled 25 total attacks.

OLLU had a total of 45 digs, led by Trevino with 13. Elaine Shaneyfelt tallied 15 digs for the Phoenix.
