
Saints' Energy Secures a 3-0 Win Over No. 25-Ranked Ottawa
SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 29, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team opened the San Antonio ShinDig on Thursday evening with an abundance of energy and enthusiasm. The Saints welcomed Ottawa University, the NAIA's No. 25 team, with a 3-0 sweep. The Braves drop to 1-3, while OLLU improves to 4-5. This is the first time the two teams have met.
The Saints started the match strong, surprising the Braves with a streak of nine points, all while Chanisty Villarreal Bermea was on serve. The Braves managed to put a point on the board after a quick timeout, but it was a service error. OLLU reached 20 points while the Braves were still in single digits, but the Braves quickly staged a comeback, scoring nine unanswered points to get within six of the Saints. However, Mia Dorsey's serve secured the 25-18 win for the Saints.
It was the Brave's turn to dominate the start of the set. They went up 8-4, and the score stayed close through six ties before the Saints pulled ahead to win set two 25-23.
The third set saw the Saints in complete control, pulling ahead by double digits at 22-12. A powerful kill from Saints newcomer Anais Velasquez brought the team to match point. The final kill from Camila Ramirez sealed the 25-15 set win and the impressive 3-0 sweep, a testament to the team's collective effort.
