SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 30, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team defeated John Brown University (JBU) and lost to Rocky Mountain College (RMC) at the San Antonio ShinDig on Friday. The Saints are now 5-6 on the season.
vs. John Brown University
The Saints started strong in the first set. They totaled nine kills and the Golden Eagles committed 11 errors. OLLU won four straight points to close the set and take a 1-0 lead. The second set was tied 14-14 halfway through. The Saints had a match point at 24-23, but an attacking error and ace by the Golden Eagles gave JBU a one-point advantage. The teams swapped points until Mia Francis served an ace to give the Saints the 29-27 frame victory. The Golden Eagles won the fourth set backed by 11 kills. The Saints quickly returned to their strong offense in the fourth set with a .278 hitting percentage. They held the Golden Eagles to 13 points in the frame and won 3-1.

vs. Rocky Mountain College
The Saints fell in a thrilling five-set contest against the Battlin' Bears in the last match of the day. Rocky Mountain edged out a 25-23 win in the first set. The Saints totaled four more kills than RMC but committed nine errors. OLLU responded in the second set with 14 kills on 40 attacks. The .225 hitting percentage was the highest in the match for the Saints. They continued to play well in the third frame with 15 kills. They reeled off four straight points to take a 2-1 advantage. The fourth set was knotted at 16-16. The teams traded points until the Battlin' Bears tallied multiple kills. Makenna Bushman had two key kills and RMC forced a fifth and deciding set. The fifth set was tied after 10 points but RMC went on to win seven straight points and forcing two Saints timeouts in the span. They won the fifth set 15-7 to take the match.
