Volleyball Triumphs Over Xavier to Advance to RRAC Postseason Championship Match

SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 15, 2024) – The No. 2 seed Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team raced past No. 3 seed Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) 3-1 on Friday night in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Postseason Tournament semifinals. The Saints improve to 22-8 on the season heading into the championship match tomorrow. 

History

The Saints were 7-4 against the Gold Nuggets prior to the match. 

Basics

The Gold Nuggets took the first set 25-19 backed by a .345 hitting percentage. Both squads totaled 14 kills but Xavier committed only four errors. 

The Saints responded in the second set. They led 22-20 and attacking errors and a serving error from Xavier gave the Saints a 25-23 win. Anais Velasquez and Camila Ramirez tallied key kills late in the frame. 

The Saints rode the momentum into the third set with a convincing 25-15 victory. The Gold Nuggets had a negative hitting percentage and the Saints tallied 14 kills. 

OLLU ended the match with 17 kills in the fourth set. The Saints had a .364 hitting percentage, which was the most of any set. Velasquez sealed the win with a kill that was assisted by Lauren Reynard. 

Overall, the Saints had 54 kills and 24 errors on 155 total attacks for a .194 hitting percentage. Xavier tallied 46 kills and 25 errors on155 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .135.

Velasquez led in kills with 15, and Ramirez added 14. Reynard finished with 32 assists. Carly Dossett and Julissa Casas the squad with two service aces apiece.

The No. 2 seed Saints face No. 1 seed Texas A&M University-Texarkana in the championship match tomorrow at 1 p.m.
