Baseball Loses Nonconference Matchup Versus UHV

SAN ANTONIO (March 26, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team fell short against the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) 9-7 in a nonconference nine-inning contest on Tuesday. The Saints move to 15-18 overall and remain at 7-11 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Jaguars jump to 21-9 overall and are 9-6 in the RRAC.

History

The Saints were 27-16 against the Jaguars prior to the game.

Basics

The Jaguars took an early lead after scoring one run in both the first and third inning. UHV added five runs in the fifth inning on two hits and two errors by the Saints. Caimyn Holiday hit a single that scored Aiden Gonzalez in the bottom of the frame. The Jaguars put up another run in the top of the sixth inning to lead 8-1. The Saints responded in the bottom of the inning again when Gonzalez singled, scoring two runs. UHV increased the advantage to 9-3 in the ninth inning when they scored on an error. OLLU rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning for four runs. Holiday scored on a wild pitch and Diego Zuniga doubled to bring in Alejandro Rodriguez. Criztian Delgado followed with a two-run single, but the four runs weren't enough to tie the contest. The Jaguars won 9-7 backed by eight hits. The Saints totaled 11 hits but committed four errors. Ethan Garza started on the mound and suffered the loss; despite the lone run he allowed being unearned. Roman Rodriguez, Hector Rogerio III, Chase Dunn, Jack Kalisky and Matthew Sanchez pitched in relief. Kalisky struck out four batters in 1.1 innings of work.
