Baseball Shines in 10-3 Win Against Houston-Victoria

VICTORIA, TEXAS (April 2, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team raced past the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) 10-3 in a nonconference game on Tuesday. The Saints improve to 18-19 overall while the Jaguars fall to 24-10.

Assistant Coach Ryan Chapa said, "We did a great job of playing our brand of baseball tonight. The offense did a really good job of sticking to their approach and staying disciplined to get good pitches to hit. We also had a great effort from a lot of guys with the pitching and defense as well. I'm extremely proud of the team and very excited to keep this rolling into the weekend."

History

The Saints were 27-17 against the Jaguars prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints started strong by plating six runs in the first inning. Vincent Banda, Diego Zuniga, Aiden Gonzalez and Brandon Betancourt all drove in runs during the frame. The Jaguars responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Zuniga and Gonzalez continued their hot hitting by recording RBIs in the second inning. The 8-3 led held until the Saints added on more runs in the later innings. Gonzalez scored in the seventh inning on a passed ball and Criztian Delgado hit a solo home run in the eighth inning. The Saints won 10-3 backed by 12 hits. Roman Rodriguez earned the win on the mound after going three innings with three strikeouts. Hector Rogerio III, Ethan Garza, Chase Dunn and Matthew Sanchez all pitched in relief. Eight OLLU players finished with at least one hit.
