Saints Advance to RRAC Semifinals With Win Over Victoria

SAN ANTONIO (May 5, 2023) – The NAIA No.2-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team defeated the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) 10-3 on Friday in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Championships. The No. 1 seed Saints advance to the semifinals where they will face No. 2 seed Texas A&M University-San Antonio (TAMUSA).
History
The Saints were 19-30 against the Jaguars prior to the game.
Basics
The Saints totaled double-digit runs for the second straight day. Cassandra Valdez started the scoring in the first inning with a double to bring in two runs. Joanna Gonzalez followed with a solo home run in the second frame. Kristee Salas and Madison Garza also smacked home runs in the inning to extend the advantage to 6-0. The Jaguars hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to cut the Saints lead in half. OLLU went on to score four more runs and win 10-3. Valdez started in the circle and went six innings with nine strikeouts to earn the win. Angela Ramirez pitched the final inning in relief. Valdez finished with three RBIs while Garza and Salas tallied two each.
