Softball Earns 21st Straight Win in Victories Over Doane University

SAN ANTONIO (March 12, 2024) – The No. 1-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball squad swept Doane University (DU) in a doubleheader today. The Saints improve to 25-1 overall and have won 21 straight games. The Tigers drop to 7-7 on the season.

History

The Saints were 3-0 against the Tigers prior to the doubleheader.

Game one

Ava Hernandez threw her first no-hitter as a member of the Saints in the first contest. She pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and only two walks. Marissa Bradley opened the scoring in the second inning on a single that scored Hernandez. Hernandez scored again in the sixth inning on a single by Bradi Hill. Kayla Dreese also singled in that frame that brought in Lexi Escamilla. The Saints won 3-0 backed by eight hits. Hernandez batted 3-for-3 in addition to the no-hitter victory.

Game two

The Tigers scored first in the second game with one run in the first inning. That would be the only run Doane recorded as the Saints went on to score nine runs in the five-inning run rule. Natalie Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning, with Dreese scoring and Cassandra Valdez also coming home on the throw. Dreese and Valdez both picked up RBIs in the third inning to grow the Saints lead to 5-1. Kristee Salas hit her first home run of season in the fourth inning. The Saints added three more runs in the fifth inning. Arianna Alejandro ended the game on a single that scored Alana Benitez and cemented the 9-1 run rule win. Valdez improved to 10-0 in the circle. She pitched all five innings with 10 strikeouts while allowing only one hit.
