Women's Basketball Falters Against Texarkana 77-58

SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 16, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team fell to Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) 77-58 on Saturday. The Saints are now 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Eagles improve to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in conference.

History

The Saints were 4-2 against the Eagles prior to the game.

Basics

The Eagles offense tallied 47 points in the first half. OLLU struggled in the first quarter with eight points and seven turnovers. The Saints totaled 13 points in the second quarter to trail by 26 at halftime. Julia Plata hit 3-of-4 three-pointers and Tiffany Lopez had five rebounds.

The Saints improved offensively in the second half. They totaled double-digit points in both the third and fourth quarter, but the halftime deficit was too large to overcome. Lopez and Cormia Lewis finished with double-digit scoring, and Lopez was one rebound shy of a double-double. The Eagles shot 47.8 percent from the three-point line and had 20 points off turnovers.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Lopez and Lewis led the Saints with 13 points apiece. Lopez also had nine rebounds. Carrie Barrera-Lacy tallied three assists for the Saints.

Semaj Adams led Texarkana with 25 points. Kayla Williams grabbed eight rebounds. Four different players led TAMUT with three assists each.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 18-of-48 shooting for 37.5 percent, 5-of-12 from three-point range for 41.7 percent and 17-of-25 from the free-throw line for 68 percent. TAMUT shot 27-of-60 for 45 percent, 11-of-23 three pointers for 47.8 percent and 12-of-19 from the free-throw line for 63.2 percent.

OLLU grabbed 23 rebounds while the Eagles collected 28. The Saints committed 15 turnovers and forced nine.
