Women's Basketball Ousted by LSU-Shreveport 104-59

SHREVEPORT, LA. (Feb. 1, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team fell to LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) 104-59 on Thursday night. The Saints move to 7-12 overall and 6-8 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Pilots improve to 18-2 overall and 14-0 in conference.

Head Coach Tanya Ray commented, "This was a tough game in a tough environment tonight. We will need to quickly forget this one and get ready to face a good Texas A&M University-Texarkana team on Saturday."

History

The Saints were 19-18 against the Pilots prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints had a tough time on defense against LSU-Shreveport on Thursday. The Pilots totaled 51 points in the first half and shot 72.2 percent from the field in the first quarter. Julia Plata had eight points for the Saints in the second quarter, but the Saints trailed by 27 points at halftime.

The Pilots continued to shoot well in the second half. They had 33 points in the third quarter and 20 points in the final quarter. Cormia Lewis had seven points in the second half and the Saints hit 10-of-14 free throws. The Pilots finished shooting 50 percent from three-point range and 58.9 percent from the field.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Plata led the Saints with 17 points. Lopez tallied a team-high six rebounds. Deja Williams totaled four assists.

Tyquanna Ross led LSUS with 20 points. Ross and Erynn Williams grabbed a team-high six rebounds apiece. Alexis Brown led the team with 11 assists.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 21-of-57 shooting for 36.8 percent, 7-of-24 from three-point range for 29.2 percent and hit 10-of-16 free throws for 62.5 percent. LSUS shot 43-of-73 for 58.9 percent, 10-of-20 three pointers for 50 percent and 8-of-11 from the free-throw line for 72.7 percent.

The Saints grabbed 30 rebounds while LSUS collected 41. The Saints forced 13 turnovers and committed 24.
