Saints Sweep Bethany in Four-Game Series

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 11, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team took all four games against Bethany College (BC) this weekend. The Saints improve to 6-6 overall. The Swedes fall to 3-5 on the season.

Head Coach Matt Piker commented, "We did a great job this weekend earning the sweep. Javier De Alejandro has been battling adversity this week and put on a phenomenal showing in this series. The rest of the team played great, and sweeps are hard to come by. There was a lot of opportunities where we could have crumbled, but the team stayed solid, and we are excited to start conference play next week."

Game One

The Saints pitching shined in the first game of the series. Alec Martinez pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and one earned run. The Saints totaled three runs on six hits in a 3-1 victory. Jackson Kalisky drove in all three RBIs. He singled to score Caimyn Holiday and Jacob Montejano in the first inning and singled again in the sixth inning to bring home Holiday.

Game Two

OLLU's offense stepped up in the second game. The Saints totaled 10 hits and nine runs. Seven Saints hitters recorded at least one hit and Tyler Vivier had three RBIs and one home run. Joshua Mendez started on the mound for the Saints and allowed four earned runs while striking out six batters. John B. Ortega II pitched the remaining three innings with two strikeouts and no earned runs. OLLU prevailed 9-4 to take a two-game series advantage heading into Saturday.

Game Three

The third game of the series was a scoring frenzy. The Saints plated 12 runs on 10 hits while the Swedes had 10 runs on 16 hits. Noah Rodriguez finished with four RBIs. Rodriguez hit a grand slam followed by a solo home run from Hector Rogerio III. Holiday finished with two doubles. Samuel Brown started for the Saints and went 3.1 innings with two strikeouts and seven earned runs. Dominique Boggs and Chase Dunn pitched in relief.

Game Four

The Saints completed the sweep with a dominant 10-1 win in the series finale. Vivier, Francisco Martinez, Kalisky and Criztian Delgado all had two RBIs each. Javier De Alejandro impressed on the mound with seven strikeouts in five innings of work. De Alejandro, Kalisky and Benavides held the Swedes to four total hits. Kalisky had three hits to complete a great series in the box.
