SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 24, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team took two of three games against the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) this weekend. The Saints jump to 9-8 overall and 3-3 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Jaguars drop to 9-5 overall and 2-4 in conference.
History
The Saints were 25-15 against the Jaguars prior to the series.
Game One
The Saints shut out the Jaguars in the first game of the series. Jack Kalisky started the scoring in the third inning when he doubled to bring in Brandon Betancourt. Diego Zuniga followed with a single that drove in two runs. Kalisky brought in two more runs on a triple in the fourth inning, and Kobey Allison tripled in the seventh frame to score a run. Starting pitcher Devin Benavides went eight innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Chase Dunn pitched the ninth inning with three strikeouts. The Saints won 6-0 backed by 10 hits.
Game Two
OLLU allowed nine runs in the second contest. The Saints led early when Aiden Gonzalez singled to score Criztian Delgado. The Jaguars would go on to plate eight runs throughout four innings. Kalisky hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, but the deficit was too large to overcome. The Jaguars tied the series with a 9-4 victory. Noah De La Riva suffered the loss after allowing six earned runs over 4.2 innings. Austin Mitchell pitched 2.1 innings in relief and gave up three earned runs.
Game Three
The Saints grabbed the series win in game three. The Jaguars scored their only run, an earned run, in the top of the first inning. OLLU evened the score in the bottom of the frame after an error by the catcher. Betancourt hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning to give the Saints a one-run lead. Anthony Valle hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and Kalisky singled to score Caimyn Holiday in the following frame. Betancourt added the fifth run for the Saints in the bottom of the eighth inning on a single. Christian Perez earned the win with five strikeouts on the mound. Dunn and Kalisky pitched in relief. The Saints won 5-1 behind nine hits.
